Fear and stigma are undermining the fight against Ebola just as much as the virus itself. Instead of supporting patients and the health-care workers risking their lives to contain the epidemic, many Americans have responded with hostility, silence, or indifference. Ending the outbreak requires solidarity, generosity, and recognizing that protecting lives abroad is essential to protecting lives at home.
